All the cottages listed on this web site clearly state whether they are on a working farm or smallholding, or if they are purely a farm building converted into a holiday cottage. In the later case, you are opting to stay in a charactful building without the advantages - or the disadvantages - of life on a working farm!
All the farms listed are small, for that is the characteristic of our hill farms. They can also be quite remote and access can be by a track more suited to a 4 X 4! In compensation, the air is clean and the views can be quite staggering. Read the details carefully, for they tell you exactly what type of farm it is and more importantly, what animals they have on it.
If you opt for a working farm, it is exactly that - a workplace. Tractors go back and forth, cows are herded in for early morning milking. Quiet it is not! On the other hand, you can normally join in the life of the farm and for many of our guests, this is the whole point of the exercise - a totally different lifestyle.
A word of caution though. Young children love life on a farm - so many new places to explore. However, where there is machinery, there is danger. You wouldn't abandon your children to play near a busy road. Similarly, you should be ever watchful with younger children and go through basic safety guidelines with older ones.
